I picked up my clubsport today. It is Ross Kaiser's 2003 championship car converted to 2 seats by Van Kaiser. It's in very good nick with lots of bits, dry sump etc.

I'm now learning how it all works, it doesn;t seem too complicated, just all new to me!

It did go on my standard minno, but it's pretty hard to get strapped down. I will have to get a bigger trailer.

And ahem, I was struggling to get it into neutral, what's the trick? What an embarrasing question!

right, got the neutral thing sorted.

Now I'm wondering if I will need a gear indicator to tell me what gear I'm in. Does this come naturally after a while?

Hi Graham

Glad you found N

Although some say you don't need a gear indicator - I'd say it's a pretty good buy especially when your new to the car. At Bedford this Fri I found it v useful to get the right gear for each corner . I won't say I was looking at it much but a pretty good support to get in the right gear for your next lap

cheers

Thanks Jon, do you know where h=they come from? Are they supplied only by radical?

Anyone got one for sale?

You can't put a gear indicator on a car with the Kawasaki engine as it doesn't have a sensor to provide the info. That only works on the Suzuki engines.

When I had my Clubsport I spent a morning up at the Radical factory doing a service and complete setup/cornerweight. I basically spent the time with the engineer as he explained it all to me and didnt mind me looking over his shoulder as we went thru the lot. It made me feel alot more confident with working on the car myself.
Well worth the effort and money

Learn also to change gear ratios and ensure chainline etc..

You can fit a gear indicator to a ClubSport as i had one on my old car,i got it from my local motorbike shop(it was called a datatool i think)cost about £50,it was a bit tricky to fit and i never really got it set up right but if you can they are well worth it.

Do these actually work reliably though? I've never trusted mine and from memory I'm not sure Danny's ever did either???

Tried to fit one to mine, they work from wheel & crank sensor, even added 4 more sensor to the wheel and no it never worked properly!!

For the Prosport/SR3 you can get a big, bright and reliable gear display from Radical. The one on the dash is not at all reliable!

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'll just have to learn the gears! Those differential things to tell the gear don't have that good a reputation.

Van Kaiser has been great at telling me what's what and answering questions on things in general so that is ok.

I have a Kawasaki SR4.

The gear indicator is very unreliable, the LCD goes off after a while. You will soon get used to what gear you are in.

Hayabusa engines on the other hand are OK, they have a gear indicator built in. We have a gear indicator on our Hayabusa powered Westfield, works everytime.

Tony, I live in a secluded private road in Epsom that is essentially oval around a green, so I have been out for a pootle that's all.

I am at Brands on 18th (I think) with Easytrack, so that'll be my first outing. I'm pretty excited, but a bit nervous about the logistics like getting the bodywork off and on and getting a hand to push it back on the trailer. I know there will be people about who will help, but I'm not sure how it will be one-handed!

I am still running the Caterham at the moment. My 17yr old is driving it on track (eek) as I think the radical is too much for her (and too expensive if she buzzes the engine).

My track days will be in the Radical! Maybe some Semsec next season.
