Due to security issues my new laptop was delivered to my home address in Lancashire (I'm currently working in London).

My brother has now had a look at it and it has the following problems:

1) It has no sound card or seems not to as it plays no music and the computer seems to think it doens't have one;

2) It has no recovery disk for Windows;

3) It plays no big vidoes unless on 32 bit and even then it's very poor quality; and

4) It doesn't seem to want to connect to the internet.

I've tried to contact the business I bought it from but the seem to be closed to for te Easter Break.

Does anyhere know what's up with it?

I take it he's loaded all the drivers from the CD that was probably supplied with it? Sounds like that's all that's wrong.

I take it you mean an Advent, as I can't find any details of an "Athlon 7041"...

Is it brand new?

Looks like the drivers aren't installed as the 7041 definately has a sound card.

Should it have one? Ask Advent, maybe? Sometimes the reinstall is embedded on the HDD (daft as it sounds, but my IBM came like this, so if the HDD goes I'm absolutely knackered).

When you say big, do you mean in filesize or resolution/screen size? AVI files, or are we talking DVDs?

I'm afraid there's little I can help you with on the basis of that statement :] far too many possibly problems/causes.
