Hi All,

I may have accidently strayed over the speed limit by some leptons whilst give the thumbs up to a fellow petrol head....oops I mean pistonheads!!

There was no average speed being enforced and there was little traffic.....

...Do cameras still flash you..if you go too fast??

Average speed, or variable speed (ie HADECS) ?

Whilst those cameras are approved to enforce the NSL, it seems to be a matter of local policy whether they are used when no variable limit is in effect.

What junctions were you between ?

Good luck with this one.

If it's M1 to leatherhead/Chertsey .... fingers crossed for 2 weeks.

Out of interest how fast? >120?

I was travelling between junctions 6-9 anti clockwise. Road was clear there were no average speed signs or anything like that.

To be honest it was a moments lapse and a bit of foolishness....guess I will have to keep my fingers crossed.

I don't think there are any average speed cameras currently on that stretch, not that they'd need signs even if there were.

Enforcement is via HADECS cameras which are gantry mounted and detect speed in the vicinity of the gantry only.

There are no average cameras or HADECS cameras between M25 J6-9 so you don't have to worry about anything.

Because I travel that route very regularly and have a keen interest in keeping up with the technology around there wink

Seriously, there is nothing active between 6-9 and I've never seen a mobile trap operating around that section either.

Don't be concerned if you saw calibration lines on the road or grey boxes in the overhead gantries. They are not in use.

Thanks Freddy.

It was stupid of me & I felt an idiot when I got home.

This is the first time in many many years...decades that I got caught up in the excitement.

Never to be repeated.

Hey, we've all done it (apart from the usual predictable lot who will jump on here to say they haven't and never would).

I had a 'mad moment' a few months ago but I had a good think about it afterwards and I'm now better for it. A bit.

If it was only excessive speed, don't beat yourself up about it too much. Presumably no kittens were harmed?

P.S. although there aren't many cameras around the Surrey section of the M25, make sure you keep 'em peeled for unmarked 3 series BMWs...

Thanks for the comfort buddy.

No kittens were harmed and a fellow pistonheader and I gave a flex of the right foot for a few seconds.

Thanks all....I'm definitely the better for it!

I was flashed somewhere between Heathrow and the A12 a few months ago (no variable limit at that time and I can't remember the exact speed, but it wasn't anything majorly over). Never heard anything.

As an aside, has anyone else noticed the single SPECS camera between J5-J6 in both directions? Assuming it's not for average speed as there is only one...

Momentarily, well for a few miles I gave it fully welly one very early morning going up the A34 from the coast to just south of the M25. And I'm talking well over 100mph. No fixed cameras, no camera vans BUT there could have been an unmarked Plodmobile around so while I enjoyed the buzz I realised the risk I ran & that's before thinking of the catastrophe should a tyre have blown.

Do you mean the HADECS cameras?

There's two, either side of clackett lane services, about a mile before and after. Popping up around the entire M25,just before Cobham services clockwise between 9-10 and after junction 10. Noticed some over the top end a few months ago. George Orwell's big brother has materialised.

There are cameras between 6 and 9, there is a gantry coming up to junction 9, which is active as I've received an NIP for 124mph through there, along with 2 other colleagues running in convoy with me at around the same speed.

There is also stuff at Cobham services, they were flashing constantly the other day
