I always download the manual (PDF) and read through most of it in advance
If it's a brand new car I'd be more worried about paint work condition, scuffs on alloys, scratches etc.
Taking a friend along as a extra pair of unbiased eyes helps as they will not be emotionally tied to the car (if that makes sense)
