E63 M6 Throttle Acutator
Discussion
After purchasing a 2005 e63 M6 last December I thought it would be diligent to take care of some of the outstanding issues. First on the list was replacing brake discs and pads for ATE / OEM items, changing the expired tyres and finally the carbon fibre roof re-lacquered and gel coated.
However, upon driving the car to Prague this weekend the car developed an intermittent fault, citing the following errors. Prior to this the co-pilot highlited the non - linear power delivery and not impressed with the performance in gears lower than fifth.

So we pulled over, turned the car on and off again and resumed progress. The fault reappeared and we were back to limp mode, reduced power, DSC failure and start assist failure. Since we were in the M6's birth country we popped into a local BMW dealership who read the codes and confirmed the suspected throttle actuators fault, unfortunately they couldn't obtain the part until 5 days later.
So after parking the car up at our destination, the car obtaining plenty of local admirers whom unbeknownst to them was down on power circa 400 bhp we limped home via the Porsche and Mercedes museums.

Prior to the return eurotunnel we called Jason at Rebuild who explained the solution and booked me in for replacement actuators with uprated gearing the next day.

After only one hour and some interesting M car chat the car was back on the road again. The car felt torquier, the auto blipped down shifts felt smoother almost dual clutch like. What a revelation, it dawned on me that the car had never been right during my ownership, the acceleration and gear changes always felt brutal thinking this was a characteristic of the car.
Advanced apologies for the linked photos rather than embedded, imgur doesn't seem as straightforward to me as Photobucket.

That's an image that can strike fear in to any E63 M5/6 owner's heart ....You can buy the throttle gears only off eBay for £140, they are literally just a straightforward swap, no drilling etc.
Probably good as preventative maintenance too.
Actually there is someone on there that repairs the electronics for £40 if you need it doing, plus the gears for £140, = £180 a darn sight cheaper than £500.
