Wot`s this bit for then ?

Help needed in identifying a bit in the boot of my Chimaera..............
It looks like an original fit part i.e. its stuck on with silicon and someone has written TVR 5.0 cc on it in black marker pen.
Stuck to the boot side of the rear bulkhead, behind the carpet trim panel above the fuel tank, is a silver coloured box about 4inches long 2inches high and 1inch deep. There are two low current cables +12v and earth going to it and what looks like an aerial lead which is connected via a small extra ally block underneath. The aerial lead runs along the top edge of the bulkhead and goes nowhere.
Alongside the box is a small 12 volt battery which is connected to the same supply and earth leads. All the wiring looks very Heath Robinson which also leads me to believe that it factory fit.
I`ve looked through the bible but cant find any mention of it, i`m sure that one of you must be able to help. My guess is a crude battery backup system for the origial alarm but that was not remote control so why an aerial ?

I`m sure that it`s not the radio aerial as the lead does not go anywhere and there is no other lead going to the radio, it definately looks like a reciever aerial for an alarm or similar but there are no wires going to anything else. The other box is a battery, Yuasu 12v battery printed on the side is the giveaway on that, sadly nothing so obvious on the silver box though.
