2014 Swift Sport 5-door

I collected my Swift Sport yesterday morning, after 8 years driving an Astra Coupe 1.8, with close ratio box. A bit of an underdog car, if you were prepared to work it. Sadly, the ravages of time left it baggier and more strained than suitable, so I decided the time was right to move on. Expecting to get a modern turbo petrol, the sight of the Sport on a local AT search was a lightbulb moment; after a brief test drive, I knew it was the car for me.

As UK weather is wont to do, it rained fairly heavily, so I couldn't really explore much of the chassis in good faith, but a couple of committed second gear runs to the redline was heaps of fun. I love natural aspiration, so having to work an engine is fine by me. It sounds so sweet, so nicely engineered.

Registered in January '14, it was built in time to include the Sat Nav/DAB unit. There aren't many stations broadcasting here, but it's a nice bonus. The navigation will be a boon when the wife and I go on a city break. The spec level is impressive, I'm particularly glad to have power folding mirrors as my workplace is a supermarket. The seats are nicely finished and the dials illuminate in a really pleasing fashion. The dash plastics are genuinely pants, but they spent the money on what matters to a keen driver.

I haven't really pushed it yet, uphill second gear runs notwithstanding. I hadn't felt it to be that quick, until earlier when i glanced at the speedo and it was a good 10mph faster than the Astra at that point. That car was no slouch, but the Swift really surprised me. In a good way. I intend to keep it for several years, so I'm in no rush to thrash it. My wife and family have all been really receptive of it, too.

|http://thumbsnap.com/Kk7YiXc6[/url]Had the original as my first car, still have a massive soft spot for these - yours looks like a perfect spec gen2.. Even in the rain that colour makes it pop. Winding the engine out and making it work is only the second best thing. The first is the wonderful chassis balance, once you get into it the handling is brilliant - lift off oversteer is great fun!
