Anyone got a guide to this and also the removal of the interior door panel which I presume is required due to having to take off the backing plate and feeding through the wiring?
If it's anything like the D3 ignore the guides and do it the far easier way. Dismantle the old mirror in situ, detach the loom from the mirror, not the car and feed the old mirror off leaving the loom in situ. You only have to remove the quarter trim inside the car to access the retaining bolt.Remove loom from donor mirror, feed the existing loom into it, bolt it on then reconnect the loom.
Takes about an hour start to finish and no need to strip the door apart whatsoever.
Unfortunately on the D4, the triangle covering the bolts holding the mirror backing plate on can't be removed without the interior door panel being removed. It wasn't so bad getting the door panel off. Wood trim off and four screws.
Took me about an hour and a half all in thats with cigarette and coffee breaks too.

Had to swap the loom over too. The part that got broken on the existing mirror was the join between the baseplate and the mirror body. TPS supplied the bare bones for £330 but I had to swap over the casing and mirror glass from the broken unit.
It wasn't too bad once the door panel was off. The loom is just one thick sheathed cable and one plug into the door so that was pretty easy to do. Biggest faff was swapping over the casing. Mirror off, undo a couple of spade plugs for the heated element. Four small screws, front bezel off and then shell came apart in two pieces.
