Bob Harris

There are only two music programmes I listen to on the radio. Paul Jones and Bob Harris.
Bob has taken me on many musical journeys from Alison Kraus to Big Big Train to Passenger, Ron Sexsmith to Sam Cook to Love to Public Service Broadcasting and all genres in between.

He's cost me a small fortune in CDs.

I'm 63, and got interested in music in 1962, rushing home from playing in the street to watch TOTP with The Beatles and the Hollies etc, spent too much time listening to the pirate radio stations (Caroline, London, 270, Scotland) in the mid 60's

Anyway his Saturday night/Sunday morning programme ends in a couple of weeks and I don't know what to start listening to for quality music, any suggestions? We have 6 music on at work but there's a lot on there I just don't get and the rest of Radio 2 and the commercial stations just play the same old manufactured slush, squarking girl "singers" and this weeks marketing promotion.

I too can thank Bob for much of my old record collection (Little Feat, Emmylou Harris, Guy Clarke, Ry Cooder to name but a few of many)

But he's never been known to say ANYTHING is ste.

I was listening to him on Country2Country on Saturday.

I love Americana and Roots music more than most. But the Nashville schlock that was being churned out was AWFUL.

Yet, Bob, bless him remained SOOO polite and courteous

Yes, Emmy Lou was another who in turn moved me onto Albert Lee and his guitar playing.
Bob's gone over to country, some of which is great some is so cheesy.
But then as said, Big Big Train are brilliant - sort of early Genesis/Yes
When you compare it with Evans, Bruce, Kyle, Wright, Mayo etc the banal prattle, the same old music playlists regurgitated over and over....

Albert played a blinder of a gig last Sunday at The Leicester Square Theatre

Played so fast you could barely see that his fingers never left his hands!
