I am planning to replace an asbestos roof over a 3500sq foot warehouse with insulated tin in the summer.

I am looking for three quotes, two from people/firms that I know and one from a Google search for "Asbestos Roof removal"

The Google search produced a firm who boasted expertise citing a case study of a firm that I know, who I spoke to, and who recommended this firm.

The first two visited the site with scaffolders and other people and I have since learned that the cost will be around £130/£140 per square foot.

Google search made an appointment, which they postponed for a week due to Storm Doris, then I got this email:

"My surveyor has just advised he can price the property from Google and get a quote to you by then end of the week. Can you please advise if this is ok?"

Suggestions of a suitable reply will be gratefully received and duly applied.

Apologies it's £130 per square metre not foot. It's a £50ish grand job so decent but not huge.

Another email this morning postponing todays appointment, surveyor's car having a new windsreen this time.

I sent a reply (much edited and reduced)

"Dear Yasmin,

Tell him not to bother rearranging again, I don't have time to waste.

I'll see someone here at 1pm today or not at all

Regards"

I like to think of myself as easygoing but I feel a Google review coming on when I can see thro the earsmoke.

You may have ended up spending a load more money just because you can't wait a day.

If the man with the busted windscreen was going to be 10% less that's £5K you just lost.

To be fair to him if the company is willing to mess potential customers around more than once, especially since it's a pretty big job, I'd worry about what they'd do once they didn't need to "impress" him.

Alternatively: if the work isn't important enough to me to arrange a taxi so that I can avoid inconveniencing my potential customer for a second time, then I probably am not terribly serious about getting or indeed doing the work in the first place.

As an aside and you may already know this, but did you know you can claim back 150% of the cost against tax if you are a limited company?

Retain the asbestos roof, add insulation and pressed steel purlins before covering of steel profile roofing material.
This procedure was carried out on a large car showroom and was completed by 2 roofers in about 4 weeks. The finished roof looked very modern and straight which transformed the whole building.
