First sunny day (yesterday) had my first decent run in the Elise down to Shropshire to see my son. Round trip with a bit of running around town was 220+ miles. Took it fairly steady as the roof was off and there was a real danger that the bit of hair I do have may have blown away, so 70-80 most of the time, with occasional bursts.

When I got back I filled it up with less than 20 litres of petrol. This can't be right? I work it out at about 50MPG.

Sad thing was I picked him up and he was wearing a duffle coat with those faux sharks tooth toggles (student). I fear it may be illeagal to sit in an Elise in a duffle coat. Traffic cops, what about the good taste act?

If you are getting 50 mpg you can't be driving it hard enough!

yep 50mpg at a steady 70-80mph is achieveable...used to get that commuting on the M25 when it was only possible to do say 70 miles at 50mph !

even driven hard on the road you shouldnt drop below 30 ish unless you have a modified car...

I get 35 Mpg no matter what I do.

40 to 50 mpg is just what it can do on a long run.

Toyota engined cars are quite a bit less economical than the K-series which can achieve 40mpg on a run

I did a run to my parents yesterday, about 180 miles on 20 litres of fuel, so 9 miles per litre. I think thats about 40 miles per gallon. Mainly motorway at 80-90 mph. (and that's with the PTP 140 head too)

The Elises are excellent on fuel, a real surprise for me coming from a Celica.
The only long trip I can comment on is back from Yorkshire last year on the M1 when at a steady 75-80mph I was getting 15 miles per litre, which must be about 50mpg.
The other thing I found out that trip is that if you have the roof off and it starts to rain, keep the speed ABOVE 80mph and you don't get wet - yup it all goes right over your head

Yip! Just sold my 111S which was the most economical of all the models (on paper). My every day car, 32K in 2.5 years, always averaged a genuine 37 mpg in every day conditions. Easily 40+ on a steady run.

4.54 litres to the gallon.

So 15 miles/litre is 68mpg! (9mpl = 41mpg)

I will try to drive it a little harder in future, perhaps using the first 4 gears too.

Ah cheers Neil, though at the weekend I fitted a wide body throttle so the fuel economy is probably going through the floor now...
