In the next few weeks I will be needing a car. I want a Golf TSI 122bhp 2009-2012 model. What are the common faults on these cars ?

It may be worth asking in the Car Buying forum.

Every car has its weak points, but vag group cars are known for been good quality motors. They sell millions of cars and remember you will always hear the bad stuff, but not the good stuff.

First thought in my head is why? It's not particularly fast and not particularly economical

Yeah, they lasted like one year so maybe they did get award from that?

I would avoid.

I doubt the majority of them even lasted a year, wouldn't touch one with someone elses bargepole

The 120bhp unit is just turbo charged isn't it?

It's the 158bhp unit that's twin-charged....

It's fairly quick and quite economical!

I think they're nice cars. My father has a 122bhp 1.4 TSI Mk6 and i'm always impressed when I drive it - I'm used to more powerful cars, but it always feels nippy, rides nicely and is well put together. Avoid the S spec though - needs to be SE.

Some of the early ones had timing chain issues, which (I think) would manifest initially as an engine rattle on start up. The higher output (160 bhp) both turbo chargers and supercharged TSI engines were more problematic.
