Has anyone experienced any problems with the electronic handbrake (park brake for colonial cousins) in a Porsche Boxster 718 Manual?

Secondly, does anyone drive a manual car that's fitted with an electronic hand brake that DOESN'T come on automatically when the ignition key is removed. If you do, could you let me know the make and model.

Asking for a friend ;-)

Thanks

Sitting in traffic at the Darford Tunnel with lots of ehb on and off I had an error message pop up telling there was a fault with it - though it appeared to be functioning correctly. The Fault message cleared when I turned the ignition off for a time.

I was not aware that the ehb came on automatically when the ignition key is removed - make sense I guess. I've found out something new smile

Btw with is a 981 Boxster but I can't think it's much different.

I had both a 981 Cayman and boxster in manual, and I can tell you that the handbrake does NOT come on automatically. You have to physically engage the HB.

My Volvo doesn't come on automatically but I wouldn't expect it to.

One of the things that ticks me off about the 981, is the fact the handbrake doesn't auto engage, in the same way our Q5 does when you roll to a stop when on the flat (if on a hill it does hold).

If fitting an auto electronic handbrake, then make it work, automatically!

Equally, I dislike the Audi way of making front park sensors 'selectable' rather than auto, as on the Porsche. The number of times I've almost crunched the front of the Q5 by forgetting to switch the sensors on - you'd think VAG would homogenise some of these features?

I can see both sides of the argument on this.

Re handbrake. I was taught to ease off the brakes as you come to a stop or you get a jerk. With autos you can't do that because of creep (I tend to slip into neutral as I roll to a stop for that reason) I suspect an auto handbrake would make things worse in that regard.

Re park sensors if you drive in heavy traffic a lot the front sensors do beep quite often and can be rather wearing. So I can certainly see a case for making them switchable (though I would leave them on the great majority of the time). Are you saying they are always off unless (on each occasion) you turn them on? That would be irritating.

Yes, the front sensors (Audi) are always off unless a) you activate the button or b) you engage reverse gear first.

Re: the jerky stopping, the Audi applies itself relatively smoothly (makes a whirring noise) so I assume it 'winds on' rather than jabs on?
