Evening all.

Having recently acquired a 488 I'm still getting used to it's characteristics as the last Ferrari I was familiar with was a 458 spider a couple of years back.

Obviously being aware it is a turbo along with having a lower rev limit it flys through the gears however, it seems to hold back at the top of the rev range when approaching the limiter.

Has anybody else experienced this, the car is still relatively new as I've only put around 400 miles on it so not sure if it still needs some running in to loosen up?

Thanks in advance!

Assuming the ECU / TCU are not preprogrammed to limit power at high revs while the engine is under, say, 1k miles., then it is probably worth checking the clutch is not slipping.

Congratulations on the purchase! smile

To your question - 458 owners manual talks about "avoiding" going over 5000 RPM for the first 1000km/620 miles.

I know there's different schools of thought on running-in, but I'm in the "when Ferrari says avoid, my wallet says avoid too" camp myself.

On the basis that modem cars typically won't let you push them hard from cold, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the ECU also has a running-in map.
