CLK220 CDI fuel economy, sensible purchase?
Discussion
Hi all. I'm currently running a 350z as a daily, but a new job has increased my commute to approx 50-60 miles a day. Now this has dramatically decreased my track day budget for my Clio 172, something I was hoping to do a lot more of in 2017.
A CLK220cdi seems to tick a lot of boxes, badge prestige, looks, comfort etc. But I'm wondering if the fuel economy rumours on the internet are to be believed? 35mpg on a run? That's barely worth changing to. My idea wasn't to get s car with Mondeo economy in a nice external package. Granted the CLK320cdi might be a better car, but in this instance fuel economy is a priority. Looking at cars between £5000-£6000 at traders so I can pet ex the Z.
Should I look elsewhere? My commute varies depending on the traffic. Either B roads or motorway.

Also don't discount the CLK270 with a map (plus even in standard form it has a bit more torque & bhp) you'll see mid to high 40's I sold mine with just over 170k on the clock they're a very reliable car.

Depends on how you drive. Worst case, heavy stop start traffic maybe 35mpg. Motorway cruising at 70/75 60mpg. Mixed use around 42 to 50.A CLK220cdi seems to tick a lot of boxes, badge prestige, looks, comfort etc. But I'm wondering if the fuel economy rumours on the internet are to be believed? 35mpg on a run?
