Got some vouchers come through so naturally it is time to invest in a good tripod, a guy at work invested in one of these:

& can't seem to speak highly enough of it, has anybody looked at it or even bought it previously?

Any other tripod recommendations for Nikon D3300?

It depends on budget, I've just taken a look at that and thought how cheap all the catches look.

I use a giottos and manfrotto is probably the popular choice. I have a couple of friends running three legged thing tripods which are superb but pricey.

The big thing is having a stable tripod, avoid cheaper, lighter tripods as you'll end up buying twice.

Budget is probably around £50-80

As with all things camera equipment will get what I pay for so would rather pay a little extra for something which will last instead of buying another a year later.

Do need something steady, I tried using a monopod but it just doesn't work for me

If I am using this for long exposure & night time shooting is it worth also investing in a remote shutter release?

For long exposure you need a very stable tripod, and if it has a hook for adding weight the better. A remote shutter is very useful although the other day I forgot mine so just used the self timer function before walking away.

Redsnapper is a fairly common response to such a question on here

I have had one for a few years and am very happy with it; one of the bigger and heavier ones - you wouldn't want to walk up a mountain with it but that's sort of the point (for my needs anyway). It's got a hook for hanging your bag underneath and plenty of height and adjustment.

The legs have four sections each so that's nine catches you'll have to do and undo each time you want a decent height. Great for travel but maybe not otherwise, and I suspect the more joints, the more wobble.

Exactly.

The 3300 probably has a self-timer so you can use that. Much easier than fiddling about with nasty bits of aftermarket Chinese plastic with button cells that die in the cupboard.
