I need some opinions/advice, if possible.

I've just come to the end of my lease with Mercedes and have the option to buy the car which is a Mercedes A180 AMG Sport with very low mileage.

I'm thinking of buying it but would be interested in opinions on if I could get something nicer for the money elsewhere. Finance or leasing isn't currently an option.

MB could sell the car to me for £16k.

I've never had that much wrapped up in a car before so I'd prefer to spend a little less, especially as the new shape A Class is coming out next year and the news about diesel cars dropping significantly in value over the next few years. I'm worried I'll lose a lot of value over the next 1 or 2 years, after which time I'd look at financing something.

Any help appreciated! I'm just not sure if it's a good deal and whether there are better options out there for the same money or less from Merc/BMW, preferably with the least depreciation.

Cheers!

Any options?

It seems like a decent price if you're doing over 12k a year then keep it, if you're not then buy a petrol

Sorry forgot to add these details:

It's 2015 (15 Plate)
It's an automatic

No options but the AMG line is decent standard spec.

The lease was over 2 years...

Anyone else got any opinions on the deal and whether it's a good price?

Compare it to similar cars on Autotrader, Ebay etc.
The only other 2 on AT with less than 10K in AMG Sport trim with the auto are : This One and This One.

You know the history of your car, have it already and £16K is around market value for the car.Nobody wants to throw money away on depreciation but the harsh reality is that if you want a new-ish car and are buying it outright (since you said finance and leasing isn't an option right now) then it is going to lose you money.

Unless you look at a car a couple of years older that has already done those extra couple of years depreciation (£12K seems to be where earlier, low mileage cars are at) then it looks like you are going to take a 4K hit before any details about diesel charging are revealed.

Compare that to the Infiniti Q30 deal posted in the leasing thread (1.5d SE crossover, £136 on 9+23, £4564 total) and £4k is going to be about what 2 years of motoring in a car of this sort will cost you anyway but after 2 years you aren't stuck with a car.

Nobody can predict the future with absolute certainty so go for what suits your situation now.

Thanks - that's solid advice and I appreciate it!

I think I'll buy it and even if I keep it for just one year, it's probably going to depreciate less than I'd pay on a lease/finance for the same car.

It also has 1 year warranty left which is good for peace of mind...
