SORN/No insurance prosecution
Discussion
I was having a chat with a Polish fella at work today and he pulls out a letter and asks me to have a look at it for him, it's from the courts about a motorbike that he's got which he hasn't declared as SORN and is no longer taxed and insured so I assume it must have flagged up on the system and he was sent a letter which he ignored/never got round to completing the SORN declaration, he eventually got round to doing the SORN but 2 days later a letter from the courts has come through and it seems like he's being prosecuted for no insurance, apart from tellling him no insurance carries 6 point penalty I wasn't really able to tell him that much else apart from the need to speak to someone with legal knowledge, we're in a union at work so I've advised him to speak to the legal department for advice.
He's just said he's been a bit lazyabout the SORN and didn't realise it was something that needed taking care asap, I know for a fact he only uses the motorbike during the summer months and it's been in his shed for ages so it defo has been off the road but I do also get that's not much use to him now he's being prosecuted.
Can anyone tell me know what sort of points/fine he should likely to be looking at?? He says he's going to send the forms back pleading guilty and appearing in person as he wants to try and put his circumstances across as regards to why he hadn't SORN'd the bike.
I also advised him to have a look at pepipoo but while his English is good he said he would struggle to understand that sort of official talk.

For being the keeper of an uninsured vehicle it is a£100 fixed penalty, or up to £1k if taken to court
no points
You can only get points for being caught driving or riding while uninsured
Oops, sounds like I've got him a bit overly worried as he really didn't fancy 6 points, I'll pass that info on, much appreciated.no points

He's ignored more than one letter. He should have had quite a few reminders and at least one option of paying a fixed penalty. Court is the last option of a long chain of events.
More than likely that is the case I'd imagine, he told me he had 1 letter and then the summons afterGassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
