Hi Audi temp gauge won't rise under normal running conditions, but in slow traffic will rise to 90 +.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thermostat always the first thing to look at (after the bloody obvious like coolant levels, leaks etc).

Im not sure what youve found in my post to take humbridge about, it wasnt intended as being sarcastic. If youre the sensitive type i would suggest PH may not be the place for you.

You asked what may be causing your symptoms, a thermostat stuck open is most likely.

Hi Cupramax It was the "bloody obvious"part that I thought was a bit sarcastic, and it got up my nose. I don't post very much on PH so not used to the lingo format, anyway thanks for your suggestion, I didn't think of that as I thought it may be the temp sender. I will now look at the thermostat.
thanks for your help

Replace thermostat with a genuine unit. TPS or VW dealer can supply. Don't get a cheap aftermarket one. Make sure you get the seal as it doesn't always come with the kit.

You can also replace the temp sensor with a genuine unit too.

Also see if they sell some butthurt solution. smile

I'm guessing it's got a DSG box?

Please see my answer on: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=161...

There is a second inline thermostat on DSG models, just outside of the DSG oil cooler and it's really common for that to fail which will stop your engine heating up correctly.

thanks RESTECP, no, it is a manual, no DSG. so must be only one thermostat. My garage keeps telling me its something else ( a sensor or something) when I have mentioned the thermostat, but everybody on PH has the same answer so will go to another garage and get them to change it.
Thanks
