Schwalbe Hurricane VS Land cruiser VS Marathon Greenguard ty

Damn guys I still can't decide on which tyres to get for my bike
I'm 100% sure I have narrowed down to these 3 models (EDITED!)

If you check the data on their website than they say that the marathon CROSS got a better rolling resistance, but what's the reality..who knows.



It's for 40% tarmac, 60% other terains, no hardcore stuff, just need enough grip not to slip out in case I need to drive through something wet, so all of them will do.

If you don't look at the price, BUT only wanted to get the best/fastest/most responsive tyre which one from those 3 would you choose? Only from those 3..
Just based really on performance and nothing else.

We have Hurricanes on our tandem,pretty good,roll ok,not to noisy,didn't have a single puncture last summer.
That said I'm changing them for sup.remes so we can get a bit more speed up when loaded

With reference to my comments on city jets in your other thread......

The land cruisers are what i revert to as my nobbly winter tyres - I bought them originally with the same thoughts as yourself re getting some lower rolling resistance and found that they still made hard going. It is noticeably harder work on the land cruisers than the city jets.

Landcruisers have been the tyre of choice for the Three Peaks Cyclocross Race for many a year, they are heavy, not particularly good on or off road, have practically no grip on wet rock, and wear out fast. All this is outweighed by their strengths, which is their indestructible nature and resistance to puncture when inflated to 80psi. Awful tyres.

Yet again I think I have changed my mind as I now came across the schwalbe website where I could see all their models and see their characteristics.
I have discarded land cruisers (too slow and cheaply built) and the Green guard marathons ( I think the Marathons CROSS version based on their website specs looks better and faster?)

This is getting a bit stupid... but.. Which one from these 3 models would you choose?

Well I bought the Hurricanes , simply because I didn't wanted to spend any more and they seemed one of the best there is.
Well... It was a bit of a nightmare to fit them correctly- to set the bead accurately so they don't wobble , even with soap water it was a total pain in a$$ to fit and I still didn't got one totally right.
I previously had some budget chepo totally worn mtb tires on it that came with the bike ( circa 8-9years old).
I have done some 20miles with the hurricanes now, all pumped up to get better rolling resistance.

And I'm really not sure if I'm faster with them, ok maybe there's 4-5% improvement, MAYBE, or it's only in my head.
Conclusion: Shouldn't have bothered doing all this research and spending money on them It's all about the driver...
I'm yet to see any real improvement/performance gain from old worn cheapo tyres I had,maybe because my old tyres were so worn that they didn't had any thread left so maybe they were already pretty efficient being bald?

Rolling resistance comes from the tyres, more specifically, the deflection of the tyres. The less rubber to deflect, the less rolling resistance, so your worn out tyre will roll better than the same tyre will when it is new, and as you have found, your new choice of tyre.

I've used Landcruisers for a long time and love them.

A few months ago I bought a set of the new (to me) Landcruiser +'s. The old LC's were tough but these new +'s are really tough. They have a puncture resistance nearly as good as Marathons which seems to work as I've not a puncture since fitting them in November.

Another nice touch on the LC+'s are reflective bands which are brilliant but obviously not for fashionista types.
