Pretty sure that BT is Youview and therefore you need an Ethernet connection

Wired connection- like you my tv is a long way from the router. So, I use those plug in internet extender things. Plug one into a socket near the router, ethernet cable to router. Then plug another by the tv and Internet from that to the BT tv box thing. Seems to work ok.

This sort of thing, although mine were maplin cheapies

Yes they will - I think those are actually the ones I have. Definitely tp link.
