Hello,

A mate of mine was going along a dual carriageway (2 lanes either side) when an unmarked police car behind him put their blue lights on, at which point he moved into the left lane and made sure that he was under the speed limit. The police car then switched their lights off, overtook him slowly, front passenger officer told my mate to slow down using hand movements, and then carried on.

My mate said that the road he was on was such that it was hard to stop on (he thinks there was a solid white line on the side of the road).

Is it possible that the police have sent a NIP via post rather than to pull him over?

Possible - Yes
Likely in the circumstances - No

My betting would be that he will hear no more..... Traffic Police in my experience would stop someone for a proper bking if they were upset enough to prosecute.

Yes entirely possible. Camera vans issue NIP via post on a daily basis.

In your circumstances though, I would say no he won't receive anything.

Have had this behaviour many times from TrafPol and heard nothing. You should be fine.

Well it's certainly scared him! He's not the kind of guy to drive fast either, so he was crapping himself all day

Sounds like he was doing a speed high enough to attract their attention, but not high enough to encourage them to do any paperwork smile

They'd likely have pulled him over for an attitude test if they were thinking of prosecuting smile

I guess even though perhaps he was lanehogging (able to move left immediately, but not certain from description) he probably impressed by having the awareness of the blue lights and did the right thing: didn't jump on brakes, moved left and slowed down a bit.

I've had this a couple of times and heard nothing else.

The copper was giving your mate a warning. I would be VERY surprised if he hears anything more about it.

Then they've done their job properly and he will drive slower and with more caution in the future!
