Looking at renewing the extended warranty on my wife car (2013 Q5 3.0 TDI S-line plus).

Tbh its been pretty reliable from new, but these warranties do give peace of mind and at main dealer labour rates would pay for itself quite quickly if something went wrong.

There's quite a difference in pricing - with £100 excess, fully comp is £1105, whereas named component is £781. Named component actually seems to cover most of the things that might theoretically go wrong and at quick look, given exclusions, am not sure that the fully comp covers a lot more - but am far from an expert.

Anyone any thoughts?

when I had my Audi S4 with extended warranty I was always just going for named component with 250 excess without roadside assistance so basically cheapest option on the list - my thinking was that this would have basically covered major faults like gearbox, supercharger, rear diff etc. things that can cost big money to fix. Small stuff I could fix myself or have fixed at the service time.

Maybe is worth understanding the common repairs on Q5 to assist deciding on named or comprehensive? What does go wrong with them, and would these component/s be covered under the named? If not how much would repair cost be vs £300 per year extra for the comp policy? I've extended warranty on A8 with comp policy for last 4 years and very glad I did. Seems when these cars go wrong can be mental expensive at dealer.

£1100!! Is that for 12 months?

I thought £422 fully comp with 0£ excecss for my 2014 A3 S-tronic was expensive.

+1 done the same with our S5, but my god the old scheme by Mondial is SO much cheaper!

I probably won't renew again - had the car for over 3 years now and never claimed on the warranty. Only non-standard repair was the dash cluster, which Audi contributed 90% to anyway, so was less than the excess on the warranty.....
