Having realised that no one could ever be expected to hear the horn on the M400 when it arrives on them at warp factor 9 I followed the advice on the forum to purchase the Nautillus air horn and I note its supplied with an additional relay as its rated at 9 amps. The guys at the supplying dealership frightened me with tales of wiring frying and invalid warranty so I just though I’d check to see if anyone has had any problems pulling 9 amps through the existing wiring or have people fitted the relay and if so where did the get the feed (iginition live 9a rated)from?

Also going to fit the S6 Snooper with under bonnet radar detector anyone done this before and got any advice?

Finally my Sony head unit is to long (it sticks out by 20mm) to fit into the radio bay on the M400, the dealership reckoned it fouled on the heater or something, but the Sony unit is a standard size so I’m a bit confused!?! Anyone come across this?

Have you taken the panel out under the radio? Have a poke around in there, there should be plenty of room but its a bit of a spaghetti...

No, just did a direct swap without another relay. Shouldn't fry wiring - unless I mistaken that's why we have fuses.

Horn circuit is 10A so you are fine (although it's shared with the hazard so I wouldn't go honking your horn continously with the hazard's going.

Who ever told you about "fried wiring" is talking c**p. The fuse has to be rated lower than the wiring otherwise the manufacturer would be liable. As the horn is 9A max and you have a 10A fuse the wiring will cope (and what is wired in is fine for ~20A).

Fried wiring comes from when people replace the fuses with higher rated ones "because the fuse keeps blowing".

You'll be fine as are many others.

As for the radio, it's probably catching on the loom. Take the panel off that goes from the bit of plastic that has the hole in it to the top of the fuse cover and you'll be able to see what it's catching on. It's a bit of a jumble in there (also check that your DIN connectors haven't moved - the ones supplied in the car are a bit short - I had to extend mine by cutting off the DIN connector and resoldering to a new one with cable.

If you are confused email me and I'll send you some piccies.

I concur with Justin re the horn - straight swap and you're up to 139 de-bees (I'm on my second now!) - I suspect there's an original relay in between the original horn and the fuse box anyway.

Thanks, i just wanted to check that Noble hadn't just added the horn to an existing fused (20A or something) circuit as some other manufacturers do. This can lead to the wiring going to the horn frying but if the circuit is backed by a 10A fuse and the wiring is good for 20A then thats cool.

on the radio front its not the loom that catching its the chasis of the unit and a metal bracket that looks like its part of the ventilation system. Mole valley had a look on the first 1000 mile sevice but they said i should buy a shorter unit!?!?!? The unit i have is a standard Sony MP3 unit so not sure what they are on about? i can take a photo and post it if no one else has seen this?

on the Snooper front i need to run a cable through the bulk head for the radar detector unit anyone know any good holes preferably on the passanger side of the car?

Before i go delving under the dash again has any other M400 owner encountered this brass coloured bracket on the right hand side of the stereo bay that prevents normal fitting?

grateful for any help!!

Not encountered any of that.

I've an entire series of photos of me fitting my VDO DAB, MP3, CD thingy. If you post up what's in the way in both cases I'll have a look and see if I can work out what it is.

To get a cable through the bulkhead you can either try and squeeze it through one of the existing holes for the wiring loom, heater unit pipes etc, or, just get a small drill out, drill an appropiate hole - it's not that hard but be careful!

Remember for any new holes to gromit them and if possible, put a bit of silicon sealant around them as well to keep water out.

I was talking to someone on the owners day who had opened up a couple of grommeted holes on the NSF bulkhead to run video cables through. You could have a look for those before drilling any more.

thanks, i'll get her to bits at the weekend and take some photos and post them up. At the same time i'll squeeze a cable through with the existing cables if i can. Hopefully this will enable me to hide the radar unit from the Gendarmes on the way to Le Mans!

Anybody had problems with their Nautillus horn. Mines has been installed for about 1 month and has given up. It is still blowing air but no sound - weird !

Yep, am on my second unit mine went all warbly! I think my problem was in not positioning it directly downwards with the first one - now sorted with a different bracket arrangement.

... although, did I hear a rumour that the Nautilus comes pre-loaded with an air-cartrige that'll only deliver eight blasts - maybe yours have all been used up! LOL
