Im looking for a camera to take to work on the farm, it would be kept in my tractor cab and will be used as and when something interesting appears from small wildlife to farm machinery.
It needs to be tough, small easy to use and be able to put up with a with a bit of dust.
Any help and ideas welcome.

My Canon Ixus 75 spent several years bouncing around in my tractor cab without complaint. The issue will be, if you are wanting to photograph wildlife, you'll probably want a decent zoom.

A good while back someone posted about how an old Canon EOS DLSR had little resale value so they gave to a niece. I recall the results which were posted on here were good - so maybe a solution would be to buy something which can take a zoom lens with image stabilisation, and if the body does get damaged, could be cheaply replaced.

So maybe the earliest EOS with IS compatibility would be a good shout (especially if you get one which is already cosmetically imperfect but works as it should).

If it's literally going to be bouncing around in the cab personally I think I'd glue shock absorbing foam sections on the corners or something.

Have you seen much so far which you wished you'd caught?

I seem to recall there's an Olympus Toughcam which could do the trick.

Just last week whilst out in the fields I saw a flock of Lapwins really close up, so close I got a picture with my mobile phone and ten hares altogether which I have never seen before!
That's the sort of thing I would use it for,I'm not really interested in zoom lenses ect I want to keep it nice and simple.

Can't really suggest anything TBH, but it would be good to see the results once you're all set. In fact, seeing as the wildlife is used to having the tractor around it would be interesting to see how much closer you get than anyone on foot.
