In order to move with the times, bosses at Radio 4 have decided to give the 53 year old soap a facelift. To increase the appeal to a younger audience, BBC Executives have commissioned composer and musician, Brian Eno, to remix the existing tune.

The more I think about it, the more angry I get. Some bloody woman gets put in charge and decides that in HER OPINION the theme is outdated.
It`s part of British heritage FFS. Why do people want to change things just for the sake of change?
They want to appeal to a younger audience? - well it`s hardly on a time to suit a younger generation is it?

Ignore these plebs, Steve. They don't know of what they speak. England wouldn't be what it is without regular updates from Ambridge.
The existing theme (especialy for the omnibus) is not my favourite piece of music, but I dread to think what manner of rubbish is destined to replace it.

I'm about to listen. I somehow feel that my desire for an 80's rock anthem interpretation is going to be dashed.
ETA: Ooh! "Hooked on Classics". Remind me again, who is that supposed to appeal to?
Edited again to add: I've just read the last line.

stop spurting
This was an April fool joke that was played by R4 LAST YEAR. I even heard the Eno remix last year... and then it was revealed it was an elaborate hoax.
So don't get all excited.
Did someone else send you the link? I ask as it's very clear from the "Arts" page as to what it was:
www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/reports/arts/index.shtml
"Archers Theme
Is the familiar 'dum di dum di dum di dum...' jingle to be relegated to the vaults of history? No. But some listeners got an April 1st scare."
As people have mentioned it's archived from last year I think.
It's recorded below my office so I'd have been shocked if they had managed to change the theme tune without us hearing a wee bit about it!

what was that Mike Oldfield sea-side ditty, that he released in the 80's, it sounds very much the same
Portsmouth - recorded at the end of Tubular Bells, 1973.
Or the Blue Peter theme tune he did a version of... 1979?
