Sky+HD drive playing up - replace HD or go for Q?

As above. Is hard drive replacement a doddle, or even possible at all? The usual external forums aren't super clear.

Cheapest option is to get a used box from gumtree for about £40 and ring sky to pair the card with the new box.
I won't comment on Q, there is plenty of discussion on it elsewhere and while some are happy some are not.
The old hd plus is proven and fairly reliable.
