Afternoon all.
I'm after a fun two seater car preferably soft top (would consider hard tops).
Either needs to be V6 or V8 or straight 6
Not too costly to maintain
Max power 200- 300bhp
Fun to drive
Classic or modern.

Any suggestions would be very gratefully recieved.
Thanks Philip
smile

Due to the 6 cylinder minimum constraint, and the fact it has to be remotely fun to drive, I'd suggest a first gen Z4 3 litre of some variety.

The engine requirements limit you a bit. Are you sure they're necessary?

I started thinking about buying an additional car at the end of Feb. For me, it basically needed to be a fun / interesting car, but due to my other cars it was targetted more at a runaround than pure fun - but it had to be interesting enough that I'd want to drive it.
I considered Z3 / Z4s but somebody recommended an Alfa. A week ago I bought an Alfa Spider (946, equivalent of the Brera).

On paper, it's only ~185bhp but it feels plenty quick and fun to drive - and I'm used to quick cars. It is far far better than I expected it to be, and I'm very impressed with it.

Thank you for your comments everyone. Good point about engine size, I would consider smaller engines. Good suggestion of Alfa Spiders, they look good. smile

There's a V6 version of the Spider, too, in case the thought of a 4-pot makes your gentleman vegetables shrink. wink

You won't get a decent SLK55 for that money but you can bag yourself a very good SLK350:

Went from very early 986 Boxster S to 2010 MX5 Sport Tech. The MX5 is a better drive for 99% of the time & I don't regret it.

When I was looking, I ruled out Boxster due to the M96 engine issues. Whilst I'm sure 99.9% are fine, I've spent too long on Porsche forums to want to risk it.

You can just about get into a supercharged VX220 for that budget - circa 240hp and under a ton so prettty rapid and rare too. Or good standard N/A cars will start at £8k-ish and should even gently appreciate.

9.5K should get you a decent S2000, albeit 2 cylinders short of a six pack. If you haven't tried one - they are definately worth a test drive.

The GT models should have a removable hardtop - if you have somewhere to store it in the summer.

Thank you for your replies. Some good suggestions. I would be a bit concerned about the running costs of Porsches. My dad owned a 911 in the 1980s and was a heap of trouble.
The vx220 is a good idea thanks I'll do some research.

I am also considering getting another Chimaera. I really loved mine for 7 years, I was hit with a big bill when I had to have my outriggers replaced which meant a body off job the car was a load of trouble afterwards. smile

Are you looking for a daily or a toy?

I love my Chim 450 but it does only tend to come out in good weather

If it's a daily, the best boxster you can find is a good shout
