Interesting prediction.

May I suggest a sweepstake for the number of laps the new McLaren will complete? No Prize.

Given their current best is 11 in one go.

Prompted by this challenge from TheInternet, just how many race laps do we think McLaren will achieve?

I think the two on the actual grid would be impressive given where they are, so any laps that one car manages would be a bonus.

As I said in the other thread, I'm going for 34.

Possibly split between both cars if they don't do that well.

I've got both to finish. I now expect Vandoorne to take out Alonso at the first corner.

On the plus side, at least they can't get involved with anyone else in the first corner on the basis that by the time they reach it, everyone else will be out the other side of turn-2. biggrin

One car will last 12-15 laps, maybe 50 miles at speed. Alonso will get a little further maybe 23 laps....then a walk. Shocking.

I'm hoping they both finish the race but doubt it so picked 21-40 due to testing results

Alonso has a big crash in FP1, Button steps in and gets a podium on a wet track.

Just off to take my medication, back shortly.

Genuine question - is Button attending each race? I know he was positioned as a reserve/dev driver but he hasn't driven the car yet, right?

Reading between the lines, there seems to have been a change since JB was announced as a £12 million ambassador.

There was a lot of talk about him being reserve driver and a possible drive in 2018. But at the last race, it seemed like he was not expecting to ever drive again.

Mika has just been signed as an ambassador.

I suspect, something changed when Ron was pushed out.

I agree.

So who is their reserve driver if someone gets sick?

Sky is still saying that Button is the reserve driver here.

This is what the McLaren website says

Reserve, Test & Development Drivers

The current McLaren-Honda reserve, test & development drivers are Oliver Turvey and Nobuharu Matsusta.

Whether in the simulator or out on track, Oliver and Nobuharu perform a vital role throughout a Formula 1 grand prix season.

I do however think that if FA walked, they might revert to Plan A
