Parked on a single yellow line to collect a bulky item from a pet shop. Took about 5 minutes in total.

Parking ticket says observed for less than a minute, ie the start and end time of observation is the same.

I thought observation was 5 minutes?

This is not London.

Depends on local authority/council policy I think. Seems to vary between nothing and ten minutes.

An observation period, where it exists, is for those who have overstayed their ticket expiry time; it isn't a gratis parking time prior to paying a parking fee.

Oh well, guess I will have to suck it up.

I thought I could legitimately load on a single yellow.

You can legitimately load on a double yellow.
Fight it. It will be a pain but be credible and you'll win. Visit Pepipoo for chapter & verse,

Yes you can if you have some evidence from the business that you were in fact loading or unloading something. I'm guessing you were nowhere to be seen and there didn't appear to be any loading going on.

If they had observed for a few minutes they would have seen,. I returned to the car 3 minutes after the time on the ticket.

This, most of the time , but you also have to check the signs and additional markings. Some places with single yellows also have loading restrictions too.

I know we have crossed paths and opinions on previous threads about parking tickets, so I'll keep my advice and opinions to myself on this one...

Oh, just looked at Google street view.

There is a small no waiting marker on a post.

Fair cop then.

There will be signs to go with the single yellow but that doesn't mean you can't load. You would need no loading marks for that.

Doesn't it have to be continuous loading /unloading? If you stopped, disappeared to get something then returned I can see why they've ticketed you.

Edit - My take on it anyway.
