Thinking about buying this Griffith
Discussion
Hi,
The Griff was the TVR that started the obsession...a beautiful yellow one in particular, 1996, that used to live on my road. Such an elegant design then and now all these years later.
In my mind it was a navy car with cream leather that was the ideal and I was planning on waiting till the end of the year to start the hunt. But....saw this yesteday at Str8six....

now I love those guys and all the TVR's I've owned over the years have come from them so I am not concerned about how it will be prepped...I am more curious about your thoughts on this particular car as I know almost nothing about Griffs. Is the 500 the one to get? Is it too dear? Is the previous owner here?
thank you in advance

'Spensive but one of the all time great colour combos, known history and the sellers seem to be highly thought of.
Had a bit of money spent underbonnet - ACT induction and silicone hoses - but not that much. Interior is lovely, full Leven ally everywhere, veneers and seats look good. Chassis underbonnet looks uncared for in my opinion... halfhearted waxoyl on the wishbones and chips in the powdercoat on the main chassis... so what are the outriggers like? Looks like it's still catted - booo. 500 is the one, unless you like precats
PAS would be nice - mine is manual and heeavy - try before you buy! Top money, but a nice spec. Real value just depends on what the chassis looks like underneath.
To conclude... you only live once...

Full Leven? Apart from the gear knob (what is that thing?), heater controls, buttons, stalks and cigar lighter? Having had PAS and non-PAS, I prefer cars without. One fewer thing to go wrong and only really any use at parking speeds.
Looks like a nice example (although I'd prefer blue bolsters) that's useable and has some stuff to tinker with.
Not cheap mind...

Hi Phil
I hope you will not be parting with your awesome Sag!!!!
Hey Colin. How's tricks? You coming to Burghley on the 9th?I hope you will not be parting with your awesome Sag!!!!

No, Sag is going nowhere...I'm gonna be buried in that. Ha.
Just miss having the roof off ... and always loved a Griff. It's totally unnecessary but what TVR isn't

It is a lovely car, always fancied a griff myself.
Yes Phil hopefully going to Burghley meeting up with the Cambridge region for the run in would be great if you could join us.

This was my Griff. Bought from Kerridges summer 2015. Originally intended as a keeper having had a pre-cat for 12 years.
This was the best driving 500 I drove at the time. Pre-cats removed and sleeved exhaust. I spent a lot of time under Kerridges ramp checking the chassis as a bit paranoid about rust. It's very sound, but is covered in Waxoyl. My next job was to strip this off, but the opportunity to acquire a very low mileage Tuscan 2 tempted me to part company.
