About time they started targetting other road users besides drivers. As Winter's approaching maybe they'll also get round to having a go at those dickheads on pushbikes who ride around in the dark with no lights.

Totally agree - IMO if you can't be bothered to spend a few poxy quid on lights for your road-going velocepede then be prepared for summary confiscation!

Couldn't agree more. I think that people on bikes should be fair game if they don't have lights. I am a cyclist and wouldn't go out in the evening without lights. The police should be able to stop people and put the bike in the back of the patrol car and make the cyclist pay a fine to get it back, say £50. That way it is more cost effective to get lights than take a chance.

What about the ones that jump the lights, use the pavement at pedestrian crossings etc and then claim that they too are road users and deserve the same rights??

Oh yeah - Our insurance premiums are going to suffer for these people. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against cyclists in general, only the ones that bend the rules and expect to be taken seriously

Just occasionally I get rat arsed and ride a bike home. If I am too pissed to put the lights on I consider that to be my problem If I get snotted then its gonna be my fault. I am sick of nanny state interfering with my stupidity. If I want to act like a twonk I should be allowed to do so and I will defend to the death that right.

I agree absolutely, death penalty for being stupid.

Look at it not so much as a "death penalty" but more as a Darwinian / evolutionary step forward,..........
No make that a LEAP! Forward.

Oh sod it, we breed pigs with less fat, cows that produce more milk, and hens that lay bigger eggs, so why the hell not apply the same morale code to homo-sapiens????

If people are to STUPID to cross the road without the assistance of a flashing green man then lets face it...... what good are they to the species'?

That takes care of the Muppets who are unable to judge time, speed and distance. You think I'm being harsh??? Just remember she (ups!) I mean they, are probably on their way to the car park, to drive home and then go and pick the kids up from school in a quarter of a ton of steel, yet she,, I mean they, can not navigate a road crossing on foot without the intervention of modern technology.

While were at it.........
Every major city should have its own pride of lions that are allowed to roam the streets, that would soon take care of the druggies, the homeless and all the fat stupid slobs to be found hanging round Ronald McDonalds place.

And another thing while were at it..... We should not be banning fire arms. On the contrary, everybody should be armed to the teeth as soon as they reach adult hood and shooting someone because they are in anyway unpleasant or rude to you, or a third party, or for that matter shooting them for any unsocial behaviour whatsoever should not only be classified as legal homicide but should be the required response of a good citizen, Alright I grant you that the body count would be a little high at first but any new initiative is going to need a little bit of time to bed in. Give it 12 to 18 months and just watch how polite and well behaved people become!!!

That'll be the three children who still walk to school then.....

I saw a good near miss yesterday. A cyclist rode straight through a red light, nearly hitting another "pedler" crossing the junction. Fortunately there were no police present to arrest me for laughing.

I quite frequently ride home rat arsed, but I almost always remember to put my lights on. (If I'm that pissed I forget the lights, they're the least of my worries ) I did once ride off the end of a jetty pissed because i forgot which bit of tarmac led to the path
