This is my original Mk2 Golf Gti 16v in Tornado Red, it’s one of the very last being a February registered 1992 I’ve owned the car a few months now and I love it too bits.

I looked for months to find a 3 Door genuine 16v and I wanted one as original as possible with the correct engine and gearbox which hasn’t been messed with too much.

I found this car and have to say after I am so impressed with the condition of it and it’s not far off mint condition for a 25-year-old car.

It has electric windows and power steering as standard and even has the original head unit and Fischer Cassette box in the centre console and the rainbow interior and in excellent condition (steering wheel and gearknob have been replaced with OEM versions since the interior picture)

It is a used car and other than the bonnet and front wing being resprayed the bodywork is original Tornado red with an unbelievable 160,000 miles and some 8 owners who all must’ve cherished it, the top end of the engine was rebuilt at 158,000 and the gearbox around 120,000.

The car runs really well with no oil consumption and everything working as it should.
Trying to keep the car as original as possible it does have some uprated parts, coilover suspension, Milltek stainless exhaust, G60 brakes with red painted calipars and inlet manifold painted, mirrors and smoked front indicators everything else is as Wolfsburg intended.

I’ve cleaned the car properly and polished and wax sealed it.

Future plans are limited, I don’t want to modify it further and ruin it so it’s just keep it nice and hopefully keep it forever as a bit of an investment as there aren’t too many around anymore, anyway some pictures, any comments welcome!

Can't believe that's done 160k!

It's obviously been cherished by previous owners.

Same colour and interior trim as my 1992 8v 5 door.

Really miss it.

Fantastic car OP.

I wish I would have kept my 2 owner Oak Green MK2 Gti, absolutely mad to have sold it.

Very very nice. It looks like it left the factory yesterday. I owned a 1986 model in Jade green for 7.5 years and still miss it now 21 years later! Enjoy OP.

Fantastic, I love these and would really like another some time, before all the good ones get tucked up in garages.

Looks great, have fun!

And I bet you regret selling it as well :-)

Mine was on 130k, 2 owners before me.
FVWSH, totally original, no rust and I sold it for £1200 weeping

yes and no. probably wont find another again for some time, but did make a few k on it in the 18 months I had it. a nice, standard 16v in run out spec would be good to have and sit on for a few years. dark colour, preferably met black or royal blue.

Love it!

25 Years old and it still look's 'solid' like it was built yesterday. Credit to VW, they really did build them properly compared to it's period rivals.

That looks really fresh and a lot of work has gone into it. Even the tin trim clips on the scuttle cover look new!

I think you're right to keep it as near standard as you plan to.

Oh, and where is the washer reservoir these days?!

Thanks very much, well spotted, I suppose this is another none standard part of the car, it's been relocated to the boot, does tidy the engine bay up a big although makes it look a little bear
