After much searching and poring over previous posts on here I've bitten the bullet this evening and fitted an anchor to the rear bulkhead to enable us to travel with our furry friend.

There seemed to bd a few ways people had done this but I've decided on a loop (I got these from a friend - tie down loops from a van he turned into a camper) with a seatbelt mounting plate with an additional spreader plate behind the carpet and above the fuel tank. Whilst a bit nerve wracking taking the 11mm drill bit to my 'new' car I can report I managed not to draw blood, drill through the petrol tank or destroy anything else fundamental and hopefully the solution will work well.

I need to replace the looped bolt with a standard one which will look better but didn't have anything the right size and grade to hand so will do this later.

Anyhow - I've put a couple of pictures below (as couldn't find any when I was looking) which may be of help to anyone else like myself with limited mechanical ability thinking of doing this.

I would say if the dog pulled fairly hard you'd end up with a big chunk of fibreglass being pulled out as there is nothing substantial in that area. I've got a roll bar which I attached Panda to. You may be better linking something between the 2 seat belt anchors at shoulder height being the seats and attaching the dog to that.

Thanks for the idea - I was concerned about the strength of the section too and agree a roll bar is a better solution. I did lots of homework before doing this and was swayed to go for it after speaking to someone I trust with a lot with kit building experience (and given I don't have a roll bar!) The weight of dog also seems highly relevant so I'll need to ensure we don't feed him too many treats to keep him under 15kg!
You've also made me start thinking about a roll bar now smile
Hopefully we'll never get to test he strength of these things...

Panda is 25kg and his reactions are extremely quick so if he wanted to go he'd be gone before we'd realised. I would have though some sort of metal cable/bar between the 2 seat belt mounts would work.

I use a zip line type of thing, that fastens between any suitable anchor points (as said, seat belt mounts are good). Depending on how long the leash is allowed to be, my dog isn't fixed to one point but cannot escape. In the Griff, he's on a very short leash, in my old Mustang, a bit longer.
