1975 Audi 50 GL

Testing the water to see if my project is of interest to you lot! If you'd like to see the full build then I'll happily post more - I have pics at every point throughout the last 2 1/2 years of ownership.
Quick summary of the major changes.
When I first bought it in France;
Some bodywork (A lot of bodywork!)
A little trim work;
Some engine work;
A little lowering and changing of wheels too;
So in short, a restoration project with a little modification. Nothing over the top, and nothing in your face (the gold centres are going dark grey) but I love it.
As mentioned I have a full build thread which I can upload but I appreciate it won't be everyone's cup of tea!

I HATE excessive camber. It's a real pet hate of mine and has absolutely no place on a classic car. Stretching tyres has its place and will be utilised a little as the rear wheel fitment is snug. Nothing too much though, just need to ensure the tyre doesn't catch the arch. I don't get the trend of over stretching tyres. It starts to effect safety, which is something I won't compromise as my stepson will come to shows with me.Looks fantastic and more pictures would be very welcome
Re: the wheels. That's going to be the marmite bit for this forum. Saying that I'm also completely unphased about the fact! The wheels are an absolute favourite of mine and should suit the car well.

Yes, The 50 was made for the european market from '74-'78. When VW took the blueprints and made the Polo it quickly outsold the 50 (due to being much cheaper) and the 50 was mothballed. There are differences, but nothing majorly noticeable.The short run time means that they're pretty hard to come by. It took me a good year to find this one.
My mother had the Polo version of this in Mars red from '78-'82, when she replace it with a Golf. The Polo was a lovely car, much nicer than the golf to be honest.
It is interesting to read that the Audi 50 was never sold in the UK market. I was going to ask if it ever was sold here - I certainly don't remember ever seeing one. The poshest one I can remember here was the Polo LS/GLS.

My father had one of these. Sort of an orange colour, on a S registration. With Volkswagen badges. I seem to recall you could sort of auto shut the boot. You pushed the bootlid up, and then it slowly closed itself until the last foot or so, where it suddenly slammed so hard half the rust fell off the car (and there was a lot of rust on that car)

I had the VW. RGT48R Died of rust, lots of rust. Loved it, had some happy times in that car (not just driving

Not sure what the Audi has, but my Polo was incredibly basic
One switch on drivers door for interior light
Rubber mats
One keyhole on drivers door,none on the passenger door
One reclining seat
No temperature gauge
I could only put half a tank in it (£5) as the filler neck had cracked and you would end up with petrol everywhere.
i remember the haynes manual having vw polo/audi 50 on the cover
Great little cars and both very rare these days
