Hi guys,

Parents have moved to a beautiful corner of the peak district, and for my Dad's birthday I'd like to get him some ''good'' binoculars. I have very little knowledge on them, but do get the feeling quality can vary massively.

I'm finding it nigh on impossible to filter out the good vs bad. Everything has a positive review on amazon, but when you filter on the negative reviews many are from people who clearly 'know their stuff' - but are drowned out by the naive general public (ie me) who has no idea other then ''ooh look, I can see something a mile away'' without realising a better brand at the same price would have done it even better.

The range would ideally be for 100-500m? for bird/animal watching in general. Priced at around £50.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for what I should be looking for in terms of brands, pitfalls and general advice?

Many Thanks

edit to add:

The below seems to be well viewed, a best seller & from a brand I recognise?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Olympus-8-40-DPSI-Binocul...

but then with the same specs, there are these for considerably less?

I have some opticron Oregon like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00OZQFNCK/ref=mp...
They are awesome but twice your budget! I guess the cheaper opticrons would also be a good choice.
