Colour advice please ladies and gents. Carpets and curtains.

I've just painted the walls in the lounge in Dulux Natural Hessian. I've papered a feature wall in B&Q Shimmer Taupe.

I now need to buy a pair of curtains and a new carpet. The sofa is dark brown leather if that makes a difference

In natural light by the window:

In the corner where it's starting to go a bit dark:

The paper:

The paint:

I like these curtains but would silver work or praline?

Re the carpet I know grey is quite fashionable at the moment but would this work with either of these schemes? Or would I be better with a mushroom/taupe coloured carpet?

I throw myself to the mercy of the non colour vision challenged. Thanks in advance.

Since your question is quite specific (not just "cream" but the specific colours you state), I wouldn't bother asking online as what one person sees is not the same as what another sees unless they've had their monitors (or phones) suitable adjusted to show the correct colours.

I'm a bloke. I'm not 'that' fussed. I just don't want to make a shocking error like at school where I was confident that sausages were green and policemen (despite being called the boys in blue) definitely wore black biggrin

I think it's safe to say the walls are a cool cream/beige with maybe a hint of grey. The paper definitely has a goldy metallic fleck to it.

I totally get what you're saying thumbup. In a past life I worked in print as a designer (thankfully we had Pantone references).

I would invite the woman round from the local curtain shop.

I'm pleased I did.

If the curtains (and carpets) are too close in colour to the walls but not an exact match, it will look like you tried to match and failed. It might be worthwhile investigating something with a reasonable contrast.

I think colours are supposed to be tones of a similar colour as well as contrasts using a colour wheel. http://www.sophierobinson.co.uk/how-to-choose-the-...

That's my thinking. I don't want a sea of beige.

Dulux's advice:

But would any of those go with Taupe.

Because I've no idea what colour taupe is. The Natural Hessian I understand is a neutral so will go with whatever colour taupe happens to be. What I need to know is what goes with taupe.

How about chocolate curtains to work alongside the sofa as the contrast, carpets in the beige colour to go with the rest of the room?

That makes sense. But I like the look of Kylie's curtains. Perhaps I can find something similar in a dark brown.

Fnar.

If the wall is sparkly, do you want that on the curtains as well?

Dulux's suggestions that go with Taupe:

Teal would work then I guess (whatever colour teal is?).

I like the deep fossil (presumably a grey?)

Ah, good point. Is the opposite wall, but yes, might look a bit prossy's boudoir with all the glam and glitter.

my wife (the non colour blind in our family) decided to go completely different for the curtains and carpet so we have beige type walls but purple carpet and curtains

the contract looks really good.

Yeah that's my thinking too. Seems like darker browns and teals seem to work well from bit's I've just been reading on the internet.

Yes, as another female I would suggest a dark purple or dark red for the curtains, or at least a pattern with one of those colours in. Or for perhaps a more masculine look, a teal blue as suggested above.

Carpet though, I would keep neutral.
