Hi all - I've just bought a R Golf. A couple of people have mentioned to me they get stolen a lot, not sure how true this is compared to other cars but I thought I would make some enquiries as to a retro fit tracker?

Firstly are they worth it? If so, what's the best one to go for?

Thanks in advance.

They are normally around the £300 mark fitted and then you have your annual subscription of anything between £150 and £250. Some people argue that if the car get stolen they wouldn't want it back, and if your insurance company don't require one then this is a consideration.

Don't take it to Greater Manchester, good chance you will be getting the train home.

I thought about this:

and then found this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01JLJN18S/ref...

Paid £21.38. Bought two. No subscription (used a PAYG SIM). Does the job perfectly

Have you hard wired them? Thinking about 1 for my Cupra 280 and 1 for my MK2 Golf.

Yes both hard wired. Couldn't be simpler an earth and a 12v supply. Optionally you can connect it to the ignition, so if the car moves with the ignition off you'd get an alert, but you don't have to do this

The units have a rechargeable battery inside so they continue to work if somebody disconnects the battery
