Increase in House building plan
Discussion
The Governmnt has added another 29,000 homes to its target of 478,000 houses to be built in the eastern counties.
The regional assembly is pretty pi**ed off by this because the Government has failed to committ the necessary money for the infrastructure of what they already had planned.
Do we need so many new homes to be built around London?

No.
We need the South to become even more expensive to live in than it already is. By doing this people will fail to be able to live here and firms will start to find it difficult to recruit. They will then need to relocate.
A few small incentives to relocate to economically poorer performing areas in the North and whaddya know - your spreading the wealth around and still only a few hours from London...
Scotland faces rural depopulation and we're building houses on green fields in the South?
Normally I don't agree with Government meddling. But it meddles so much to do with housing anyway it might as well try and relocate a chunk of our economy somewhere it might do some good.

Yes there are limits to how many people can be squeezed into the south eastern corner-particularly given the alread over loaded infrastructure of the region.
One (admitedly rather drastic) solution would be to relocate all council housing tenants who have no desire to work to vacant properties elsewhere in the country-their homes can then either be occupied by people who want to work or demolished to make way for new housing.

It's the last vengeful, but irresistable reflex from 'old labour' stalwarts that pinned their flag to the New Labour mast. Make the south pay for the north, always a labour maxim both then, and now...
