Im in the market for a good business suit.
My budget is about £8-900.

I want it made to measured.

Is it better to go with a local tailor or one of these big places?

Any do's and don'ts?

Anyone had a suit made recently and what did they wish they did differently.....

Thankyoui all.

My experience, which may not be typical, is that "made to measure" suits are "made to a price" and do not represent good value. I had 4 made and each one was terrible. I was fortunate in that the company refunded every penny including the tailoring costs. When researching this I found a lot of people agreed with the sentiment and said it was better to buy "off the rack" and tailor than made to measure.

Have you looked at boss suits? They will get the suit adjusted to fit you. I bought a dinner jacket a few years ago and it was tailored and fits like a glove. 550quid job done.

I would say off the peg is better and adjust from there.

Made to measure is more for people with very long arms/legs etc.

Friend of mine for example has suits made to measure as he's a 54" waist, 14" leg, jacket is 38" chest but arm span is double the normal.

Guessing, based on the 54" waist and short legs:

Apologies, I think I may have mixed up the measurements.

Either way whilst I would have previously said made to measure. Off the peg suits are a lot better than they were (that's what I find).

Shirts on the other hand I struggle to get a 42 chest, 17 next with a slimmer fit.
