Am I ok with dark blue or is it always black?

Condolences on your loss.

Regarding colour; Either, IME, unless for a child in which case something bright is usually requested.

more important that you are there, rather that what you are wearing. dark blue would be fine.
as long as it is not too over the top. depends on the person who is being buried i suppose

If it were my dad, I'd wear all black but with brown laces in the shoes. Just to disappoint him one last time... hehe

Sorry to hear about your loss.

The traditional colour is black but these days many people may not own a black suit. Dark grey or blue can be acceptable with a white shirt and dark tie and still maintain a formal look if that's what you wish.

Are you involved in arranging the funeral? If so you could set the rules, so to speak, and set an expectation with the attendees. Some people like their attendees to wear a little colour as it can lighten the mood. Did your dad have any wishes? Does your mum? Please don't feel that you'll get things wrong. Do what feels right for you and your family.

Sorry to hear of your loss too. Usually black, but I have told my missus when I go up the chimney I want everyone laughing & joking & taking the pi$$ out of me ! I don't give a toss.

At the afterwards "Bunfight" the mourners can pay for their own ale !
I have left strict instruction, any clothes except black, jeans & t-shirts if the mourners so wish. Also no flowers either but donations instead to the Cat's Protection League or any animal charity.

Funeral to be arranged as cheaply as possible, I don't want undertakers or flower sellers cashing in on my demise.

Personally, I would wear a dark suit - preferably navy or dark grey, black shoes, but always a black tie. I don't think a black suit is necessary, but in my view the black tie is.

I am sorry that you've lost your Dad, it is a bad day and you will always miss him. My died in 1987 and I still wish he were around and he was 88 years old.

My condolences to you I know how you must feel. My Dad died on 5th March, this year, just 8 months after my Mum. The funeral is a personal thing for you and your family, there are no set rules now.

People used to turn up in black but do not so much. I wore a black suit and tie as that is what my Dad wanted a traditional affair, so we did as asked.

Sadly I have been to too many funerals recently and dark suits are in the main worn.

My FIL has instructions that no one is to wear black at all, the brighter colours the better.

I'd wear a baby-grow, which is what I was wearing when he last saw me.

OP, wear what your dad would have wanted you to wear, be it dark suit or motorcycle leathers. Sod everyone else and their opinions.

How strange. It's my Father's funeral tomorrow and I was wondering if my very dark blue suit (almost black) would be seen as offensive, I.e not being properly black.

Probably not, but your anxieties are a little heightened in these circumstances.

I can sympathise too, at the moment we are arranging my mum's funeral, and we believe she would have wanted informal but sober / respectful. The sort of clothes we might have worn for a family trip somewhere, but nothing overboard. I'm starting to get a bit apprehensive about it now though. Sadly, in the time we had with her, it wasn't one of the more important priorities.

Personally, I'd still go for black/dark grey if possible. It's good to show as much respect as possible for this one last time and, for reasons that I can't comprehend, a sober colour seems to be the most appropriate.

A timely thread for me unfortunately. I have a navy suit, but it's linen and a bit big since i laid off the pies. scratchchin

I wore a very dark blue suit for Mum's funeral, and again for the inquest today.

In the absence of specific instructions from your Dad, whatever feels appropriate to you should be fine.

I wore a black suit to my dad's funeral teamed with pink Converse high tops; my dad was known for his penchant of pink shirts and I've always been a fan of Chuck Taylor Converse.

It's your dad to hell with protocol do what you want

For my mum I turned up in Tshirt and shorts

I spoke to my dad first and he said mum knew you best it sports kit or Tshirt wear what ever you want

It did cause a few family rows when I arrived in the official car but too hell with them it was my mum

Thanks guys, hard times. Especially for mum- she met him aged 20 and is now 65... I cant even imagine waking up one morning with my other half- I'll be there every step of the way of course but can only do so much...

I think the dark navy suit will do- he liked formal and I think (personally) wearing a suit for a funeral is the way to go- I just wasn't 100% if it was just black. I'll wear a black tie too.

Of course it will. You have much more important things to think about than the colour of your funeral suit. My sympathies on your loss, losing a parent is never easy.
