By all accounts the same car was up for £45k at a garage last year and didn't sell!

I suspect you're wrong. This car was originally owned by a well known collector and its history is documented.

It is a very strong price and I hope the new owner bought it because he loves the car rather than purely as an investment.

That's the top right there.....utterly mental. Fari to play to whoever wanted it that badly!

Of course the scary thing is that two people wanted it....there's someone else out there who was willing to pay £90k plus and didn't win.
