Sunbeam Alpine Clutch problems

I have a 1966 Sunbeam Alpine with a clutch that should be dead simple but in fact is the devils own job to bleed all the air out of. Does anyone have any tips or advice for how best to do this?

Conventional bleeding doesn't get all the bubbles out so I intend to try reverse bleeding it from the slave cylinder nipple upwards with a (cleaned) oil can filled with brake fluid. Apparently this way you can drive the bubbles out. I've not done this before, just seen it on YouTube.

Buy a large syringe from eBay, you can pull the air out or push fluid in.

I use one on awkward motorbike brakes, much easier to use than a pressure bleeder.

I used a gunsons pressure bleeder on mine ("67" 1725) took but a few moments and worked a treat.

Hi Positronicray,

Do you have a photo of the route that your clutch pipe takes from the Master to the slave? I wonder if the air is getting trapped in mine because of an incorrect route.

I've sold the car now, I took the master cylinder off when I changed the steering column.

From memory it went over the top of the bellhousing. Try posting on SAOC, a wealth of info there.

All sorted now. A few frustrated and angry stamps on the pedal (courtesy of my son) and the air was forced out and the clutch is now working fine!!!!!
