I'm looking at buying a mk5 gti soon and just wondering if anyone is running one with 90k+ miles and any feedback from their experiences.

Mine is currently on 132,000 miles and running perfectly, although it recently have an expensive MOT which involved replacing sticking rear calipers and some worn suspension bushes etc. Happens with age and higher mileage though, parts will eventually fail.

Just make sure things like the timing chain tensioner and PCV are in good order, and the servicing has been carried out properly.

Recently sold my gti dsg which was at a tad less than 98k miles.
Had it from around 75k miles and it never gave me a single issue during my ownership. Great little car.

I thought I'd check this thread to see what constitutes "high", yep I'm way off the mark.

There are plenty of mk5s that are on or nearer 200k than they are 100k, the 2.0T engine has been used extensively through the VAG range so if you look beyond mk5 GTI you will find Audi A4s & Passats that are on over 200k for barely 10 year old cars.

Currently on Autotrader there is a GTI Ed30 with 203k on it!!

What exactly are you worried about by buying a car on 90k?? If it has had a cambelt/tensioner/waterpump & fuel pump follower done combined with servicing at the correct intervals (or more frequently depending on the owner) then the sort of items that will fail due to age/mileage are going to apply to all 7-10year old cars.

90k is nothing for one of these given they're all at least 9-years old now!

I ran a 55-plate 3-years ago from 95 up to 99k without any notable issues. All I remember going wrong was the air con which seemed to be a common fault regardless of mileage

Awesome cars, probably the best hatchback of the decade. They were leaps and bounds better than anything else at launch and still a very strong package today.

We know that, but mileage is everything to your average British car buyer because they STILL think metal implodes into a pile of dust at 99,999 miles.

More fool them, but great for enthusiasts because bargains can be had due to this outmoded way of thinking.

Anyway, my Ed30 is on 110K and a good half of that mileage remapped, with zero issues. It just needed a clutch to handle the increased torque, but that's a choice thing rather than a flaw.

Suspension is all original too, no damper leaks. 1 slightly bubbling wing replaced under warranty, otherwise perfect bodywork.

It's actually a boringly reliable car. I like things breaking because it's an opportunity to learn more about the car, and my tools are rusting through lack of use!
