C02 inhalation when doing HIIT?
Discussion
Odd thing happened today.
I was doing watt bike sprints, which I do every week and which are always hard but OK. Today, however, I felt like I was about to have a heart attack. I couldn't breathe.
Next to me was a Nottingham Rugby prop also doing sprints. I would say he was about 2-3 feet from me, I'd also put him at 18 stone.
I found that when I turned my head away from him between sprints I felt a lot better.
Was I breathing his exhaled C02 and was that why I was struggling? Odd question I know, but it's the only explanation I can find.
Inspired CO2 0.04%
Expired CO2 4%
I'd be very surprised if his diffused CO2 could change the atmosphere in the room
If I was doing a hard session next to a massive professional athlete I suspect my heart rate would be up 5-10 ppm through intimidation - this would have the effect of bringing threshold intensity down making a usually tolerated interval hard

You're probably right. It was odd though.Expired CO2 4%

You felt like you were about to have a heart attack, yet you pushed through it and carried on?
I'm sitting here with one eyebrow raised.
To be absolutely accurate, I've not had a heart attack yet so I couldn't be sure that the sensation was that of an imminent cardiac arrest. However, I felt quite distressed and as though I couldn't get enough oxygen into my lungs.I'm sitting here with one eyebrow raised.
