A man walked into my office today to have a document witnessed
As he placed the paper before me I noticed what looked like a Patek Philippe. iIt was a PP
I asked to see it and he was very nice, he took it off and I felt the quality and weight - it was a top watch, a Nautilus
He said he had 4 PP's & this was the only watch he bought
He looked at my sub mariner and said that is a timex piece & that PP is royalty
I told him i sold my AP & he just guffawed - saying only PP rules
Whilst I agree that Rolex are not haute horology I did note what he said
Its also the first time I have noticed a PP on a person
A good day i think

Sounds like a total knob, if you ask me.

Agree with the above posters - he sounds like a knob. Why not just appreciate that someone knowledgeable is taking interest in your watch. Tosser.

Just to add, there is no doubting the quality and desirability of PP watches, but personally I don't like the looks of the Nautilus.

I have to agree with that, but horses for courses and all...

But, this tosser certainly strikes me as someone who bought a PP because it's the 'royalty' brand. That is true, but if you actually have any interest in watches, then you would appreciate the Submariner for what it is, and not make such a ridiculously laughable comment.

I know car analogies are tired here, but it would be akin to a 911 owner complimenting someone on their Aventador, and the Lambo owner referring to the 911 as a Talbot.

That's not a clear cut comparison. This is a Talbot:

Would it not be more like the Lambo owner referring to the 911 as a Beetle? Humorous, a little cruel, a little true.

I think it's the truth aspect that disqualifies in this example.

I've never understood the appeal of the Nautilus, it's a remarkably ugly watch.

To an extent you could say the same about the AP Royal Oak Offshore, but in the flesh the AP has massive presence and is stunning in a very unconventional way despite it's appearance in pictures.

Nautilus is as ugly, as dull, and as outdated in the flesh as in pictures. IMHO of course.

OP- I wasn't sure if your post was some sort of really odd joke or not? You met someone who insulted your watch, laughed at you, and yet you came away from the encounter perfectly happy?
