Crayon vs. PTS Fashion Grey vs. Other PTS Greys

I'm selecting a colour for a 991.2 C2 GTS Cabriolet. I have PTS and was thinking of Fashion Grey, to get away from GT Silver whilst still coordinating with the GTS silver stitching, but since the GT3 launch the formerly PTS "Crayon" has been added to the standard colour palette for GTS and has confused matters.

Does anyone have any pictures which enable comparison of the two colours (Crayon and Fashion Grey) side by side please? (even the PTS wailing wall with arrows or circles showing the positions of the two would be great).

And then there's Sport Classic Grey and Grigio Campovolo - are these lighter, darker, similar to FG?

Short of travelling to Exclusive in Stuttgart how does one get clarity on how these greys compare please?

I'd say Grigio is lightest then Sport Classic grey which are both lighter than Fashion Grey. There are pictures on the net of a 991.1GTS in Grigio if you search. I nearly bought a Grigio 991.1 GTS 18 months ago but bottled it, wish I hadn't! I have a video somewhere of that car next to a white Carrera if you're interested.

I'd go Sport Classic personally there's pictures of a 911R in it, looks stunning.

I have a Grigio Campovolo GTS with the rhodium/white stitching. You're welcome to view it - PM me if interested.

The PTS process is slow and painful and you can't be absolutely sure that you'll end up with what you though you'd be getting. Having said that, I'd do it again.

Photos are not reliable. Best to see the colour in the flesh. You could order some 'Speed Shapes' and get your OPC (or local paint shop to save a few £££) to paint them in all the shades of grey plus one in white. Then you can view them all together in sunlight, shade, indoors, outdoors, etc.

If you do this, can I borrow the shapes for a weekend?

Out of interest, how much does PTS delay the build process on a Porsche?

I have just taken delivery of a 991C2 in Nardo Grey: I have to say that it looks a bit lighter in the PTS version than it does on the Audi RS6 that lives round the corner from me, but is very reactive to different light intensity and angle

It was possible to order some of the first 991.2 GTS's in PTS. My OPC ordered their demo in PTS which arrives this month.

Thanks for this. I'm still searching for the holy grail of a photo of Crayon alongside Fashion Grey or other greys. I'm half minded to seek to create something like the 2016 Rennsport Reunion Edition GTS, but maybe with silver stitching and PCCBs....

With a PTS build, the colour will lock very, very early, as will anything that is painted.

Porsche orders the paint in your chosen colour, and then sends measured batches of it to the manufacturers of the wing mirrors, bumpers, key sides, etc, to ensure that your assembled car is the same colour all over. Many parts are made and painted off-site by 3rd party manufacturers.

If you decide to change a part of your build that is painted after the paint has been ordered, your request will most likely be refused as the exact amount of paint has already been prepared and distributed.

The spec for the interior can be revised until quite late in the day. For painted items, the lock is early.

My understanding was that, if a new model was scheduled for build commencement in, say, July, PTS might delay delivery until Oct?

It's not that scientific. They build PTS cars in batches so you have to wait for the next batch and the OPC's/Porsche GB don't know when that is.

For example the only build slot that my OPC could get allocated for my wife's PTS Boxster is August this year....they have no visibility beyond that about for when the next PTS build slots will be even going into 2018. If we wanted a regular Boxster colour it could be with us in June. The sales guy we are dealing with said that a couple of months ago he rang the relevant person at Porsche GB to enquire about a PTS slot for a 911 Turbo S and got told that if the customer wanted to lock the car down within 48 hours he'd have it a couple of months later. It seems that PTS slots almost seem to be a different allocation than normal build slots for OPC's as that customer got his Turbo S quicker than if it was a "normal" car.

My OPC orders a lot of PTS cars as showroom cars/demonstrators so they seem to have a pretty good handle on it.

Personally I think it's well worth the hassle on the Porsche Sports Cars...not sure I'd bother with a Macan.

I don't think there is a photo of crayon next to fashion..yet. I think this pic is modegrau / fashion but gives you an idea of black hood, wheels, and red callipers. Would look good with a few black or red decals.. possibly R striping across bonnet / engine lid?

Depends on whether you go for PTS approved colours or your own colour which requires approval. PTS approved added six months to my order and the other, well, I gave up after 10 months of messing around.
