I nominate B fking T customer services.
Phone them to complain about non-existent broadband and the automated service directs you to their web-site.

DPD - don't ever bother calling customer services. It's an automated service that tells you the same as tracking your parcel via the website.

Absolutely no use to help you tell someone that the photo of the front door, they took to show you missed the delivery, isn't actually your front door.

Ex- Delivery company City Link

I was at home waiting for the delivery of a chain saw. The driver walked to the door, no parcel in his hand, put a card through the letter flap and got back in his van.

The card said, No one at home please contact the office and arrange for collection.

The office was 16 miles away. I rang the office, they said that the drivers were very busy and couldnt be expected to wait whilst customers came to the door, they suggested I came and picked up the parcel.

I went to the office, spoke to a young lad and asked him what the hell was going on.

'I know, its terrible, I hate it here'.

He was close to tears.

'At least you didnt have to pay for the delivery service'

I replied that I had paid £10.

He passed me the parcel, bent in two.

Now I knew why they didnt want to deliver it.

City Link went into administration on December 24 2015.

It's EE for me

I normally sing their praises, good signal, good deals and no issues, however i had to phone them for some reason the other week, been paying them £50 a month for about 18 months at least and this was my first time "bothering" them.

I get told they are very busy, but if I press 3 on my phone keypad I will be charged £3 and put to the front of the queue, in front of all the other paying customers, who have been offered the exact same option, that REALLY pissed me off.

I didn’t press 3 and pay obviously, and about 5 seconds after this option was declined they answered anyway, so wernt even busy, they must play this message for every call, even when advisors available.

I had forgotten about EE. Bought a Samsung phone from EE in Canary Wharf. Took it back because the screen got so hot that you couldnt put the phone to your face. Went into the EE shop, four shop assistants, as soon as I said I am having a problem with the phone, they all went into the back of the shop. Wouldnt come out. Waited 10 minutes, on my own in the shop. One man came out and said I had to phone this number, which he had just written down. Asked for the manager, she is out, asked when she would be back, dunno, in tommorrow, dunno, next week, dunno.

Phoned the helpline, they said it was my fault and probably due to an App. I had to take it somewhere for them to look at and that I would probably loose everything on the phone and could take 6-8 weeks to fix.

Within a month there was a big fuss about Samsung phones catching fire, suddenly they couldnt do enough to help me.

Bit damn late.

Doesn't surprise me. The nearest Citylink depot to me was about 16 miles away and having to head over on a saturday was not a pleasurable experience as the old, fat, asthmatic women would take about 20 minutes to shuffle off into the warehouse for each parcel. It would take an hour to get in, collect and out again, even with a queue of just 3 people. I was glad when they went to wall.

I'd like to nominate Sky for customer service only rivalled in it's dreadfulness by BT. I will NEVER go near Sky ever again.

I have to say, exactly this ^^^^.

In the interest of balance, when that exact situation happened to me, eventually after a lot of googling their street addresses found a phone number that someone actually answered, thanks to some online phone directory rather thain DPD'S own website. They were genuinely helpful and sorted it.

The other one I would nominate is Diamond buses, a West Midlands outfit serving North Worcestershire. They really are flaming useless with haphazard and missing services. They say that they intend to keep people informed about service disruptions via their social media pages. Except the staff updating this information bugger off home mid afternoon, which is a great deal of help when buses go missing for the homeward commute and phones at their office in the bus station go unanswered. Useless.

I had the same with them, tried to deliver when I was at work so I filled in the thing on the website to say don't try and redeliver and I'll go and collect from the depot. They tried to deliver the next day anyway, and on the Saturday I drove 15 miles through the snow to their depot and waited half an hour while they looked for it and couldn't find it. Turned out they'd returned it to the sender as it hadn't been collected. Luckily the e-bay seller was a nice bloke and took it back to them to try again...so I had to drive over there a second time.

Virgin are interesting. Broadband, TV and phone all died some time back. Dunno about the phone but the TV and broadband are the same cable with a splitter to send it to the router and the tv box, which suggests to me that the problem is outside my house. They tried to remotely run diagnostics but unsurprisingly couldn't connect to the box so arranged to send an engineer over...the following week. But I need to talk to antoher department about the phone and TV not working. The next day they phone my wife at work to say it's all been fixed so they've cancelled the engineer. Get home to find still no phone/internet/tv, an have to go through it all again. rolleyes

Engineer eventually showed up and spent 30 seconds swapping a component in the box on the street and then 5 minutes moaning about the remote diagnostics and allocation of engineers to jobs biggrin

Vodafone.

Me from Seattle. "I don't appear to be on the right tariff, even though you said I was. I'm getting lots of texts saying I am nearing my limit"
VF "Ok we'll sort it".
Me next day "My data won't work now"
Que lots of to & fro about rebooting phone do this do that reset this reset that.
Me after 5 calls "just fix it"

The next day all was good. Then the last day of a 14 day holiday, a text from VF. Your bill is very high please contact us. I was getting on the plance so would sort it next day.

Next day:
A text from VF collections. Please call us to pay your large bill
Me "Hi, I have a big bill apparently, even though you put me on the right tariff where I wouldn't get a large bill
VF "yes, it's £332 as you were on the wrong tariff for the USA. How do you want to pay?"
Me " but you put me on the right tariff"
VF "So we did. We'll pass this to customer services. We can see our mistake. This will be sorted with 3 working days"

4 working days later. I call VF Customer services
Me "Why haven't you call me yet?"
VF "we reviewed the account and the £332 charge still applies"
Me "Have you read through all the notes?"
VF "no, let me look"
Now on hold
VF "Ah yes, I can see the mistake. We'll escalate to account. This will be sorted in 5 working days"

Direct debit of £332 taken from my account

5 working days later
Me "When do I get my refund?"
VF "What refund, the £332 charge still applies".
Me "Then why have you gone back on 'your mistake' twice now?"
VF "ah yes, I can see the mistake. We'll get this sorted"

Next day. Call from VF
VF "We have reviewed the account, and all is correct"
Me "OK I'll be writing to the Director's office to complain, and then will take court action. Can I have all the transcripts of all our calls please"
VF "Certainly."

Email to directors office sent spelling out the above, and unless refund is agreed, small claims will be submitted

Next day. Call from VF
VF "apologies for the mistakes. You refund has been processed".

Orange/EE, although the Local council tax dept comes a very close second. They seem to have adapted an inclusive HR policy, in that they can only hire window licking morons.

Me. Calls keep dropping, and calls are being missed
EE. Let me look at your logs, (waits 10mins) Nope its not happening we have zero traces of calls dropped, try this and try that

I ring back following day:

Me. Calls keep dropping
EE. Where are you?
Me. North West London
EE. Ah that will be the problem Sir, London is a very busy place where a lot of phone calls happen.
Me. No st sherlock

Me Hello is that O2

In fairness to Orange the customer service for their Satellite Internet is awesome, quick efficient and dirt cheap for accessing the internet in the middle of nowhere.

Talk Talk. Sent them a power of attorney letter for my aunt, as she couldn't talk following a stroke. Called them up to see if they'd got it, but they refused to discuss it with anyone but my aunt.

Customer service is not a British strong point...

Vodafone and NOW TV mis-billed us for around 3 months last year... Took another 3 months and ~20 phone calls before they finally corrected the pricing and refunded the overcharged cash... They would either, a) lie and say the refund was on its way in the next several working days (when it wasn't), or b) say it was the other company's fault and tell me to dial their number... Eventually fixed it with a three-way call between Vodafone and NOW and taking the best part of an hour to work out and confirm which side had screwed up...

Net result -- I switched contracts to Three this month and left Vodafone (and NOW)...

Suspect it will only be a matter of minutes before someone jumps in here and tells me Three are even more sh*t thumbup

I'll second that. My mum had a phone line cut by some workmen inside her house. She was with Talk Talk who were called out to fix it, which was strange as I didn't think they owned the line and we never found out who authorised the it.

Anyway, a few weeks later they took over £900 from her account for the repair. She was on DD for her bill. I went nuts and phoned no end of times to be told we,ll look into it and someone will ring back, etc. and no one ever did. Eventually I went to her bank who reversed the charge and I never heard from Talk Talk again.

Had a car insured with Royal Sun Alliance, think they are now called RSA. The monthly premium by direct debit was £120.00.

The first month they took £12,000 from my account, didnt find out until I get my bank statement. When I phoned them they thought it was hilarious, I tried to manage a smile but couldnt.

Told them I wanted my money back, they said that I had missed the repayment/refund cut off date for that month and it would be 28-60 days before the refund could be processed.

I complained, as you might have guessed.

Their response was that they were very busy because there had been a number of similar errors.

Sent a solicitors letter, a cheque arrived for £12,000 the following day and they gave me a years free cover.

---

Another insurance story from my grandmother. She was walking past a company called the Commerial Union in Leeds. A large banner in the window said new for old contents cover, we replace your old damaged items with new. She went to the counter, asked if the sign was true because she had damaged her carpet, they said no problem, go and get a replacement and bring us the bill.

She replaced the carpet, took the bill into the office and, by chance, spoke to the same young man, he remembered her. She handed him the bill. He asked for her policy number, she said she wasnt insured.

To their credit, they paid the bill.

I wouldn't use DPD for parcel delivery as they're terrible at it, but I did have some success with their customer services. I had to chase it up myself but I got what I wanted, sort of.

One of their vans crashed into one of our work cars on a residential street by misjudging a reversing manoeuvre.

I spoke to someone at their front door who told me a DPD van had pulled into a parking bay opposite where our car had been parked. I managed track down the recipient of the parcel and got written permission from her to obtain the consignment number for her parcel so I could identify the driver (the label bad been ripped in transit).

With that info, I pestered customer services via their website until they put me in touch with their local depot manager, who identified the driver on the job. The circumstances were such that I was pretty sure he had caused the damage but he denied it and there were no independent witnesses.
