Speccing up a new home cinema system, going full 7.1.4. Current receiver of choice is 9 channel leaving a pair of height channels needing external amplification. In fact, it would be better to have all 4 height channels amplified the same way so what I'm looking for is a couple of cheap 2-channel power amps capable of around 50W max to drive some B&W CCM ceiling speakers.

Can anyone recommend such a thing? The height channels just don't need ultimate quality or power.

Cheers

Well...the shop doing the install is recommending a couple of Class D 100W 2-channel power amps at £325 each!

This seems like poor value compared with the receiver itself which has all the AV circuitry and 9 channels for just £100 more. So I guess the budget is "appropriate" to get 4 channels of amplification. £200 or so feels appropriate.

In the end I've sourced a couple of Rotel multi-channel amps from eBay for a relative song. I'll audition them both in situ and keep the one which sounds best and punt the other back onto eBay.

I tried a few and ended up thinking SMSL are the best . I have a amp and a headphone / amp/media player . Both excellent
