I was all set to place an order for a Sony VTXD800U Freeview box based on the reviews I have read. However, I just realised it does not have a card slot for a Top up TV card. Can anyone reccomend a box that does have this capability?

Cheers

We've got a Thomson one we bought about a year ago and it seems OK. Although I have been singularly unimpressed with most of the ones I've seen so far, this is out 4th box (of various different makes) - they seem to come from Sony-Ericsson school of manufacture (ie, beta test on customers, then bring out "new" version that has a whole lot of different problems and make previous customers pay to "upgrade". Repeat until customer base = 0

This may be a bit of overkill for you, but there's a new recorder/freeview/topuptv unit coming out very soon.

It's called the Topfield TF5800PVR, and it's a 160Gb disk recorder, freeview receiver and has a slot for a CAM for TopUpTV.

Go here for more info www.toppy.tv

Edited to add, they're in stock here for £299 plus £40 for the CAM

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't planning on spending more than £100.

I may give the top up TV idea a miss and go for the Sony. Appears to be the best around according to all I've read.

I haven't compared the Sony with any other models but it looks by far the best IMO and the programme menu is very good. You can also program the remote to work certain TV functions (if you have the right TV).
